2019-2020 - Grade 4 & 8

This has been an interesting year.
I didn't blog this school year.
Our school has a new reporting platform called Fresh Grade.
I kind of wish I would have updated on here too.

It is now April 2020.
Homeschooling looks much different.
This is the time of the COVID - 19.

We are on day 36 of rarely leaving the house.
If any of us go out, it is one or 2 of us at the most.
We wear masks and gloves.

Homeshooling - We miss our EA's and Community Classes.
We miss our friends and our field trips.
Mama really misses her support groups.
I think the thing I miss the most is church. I really miss singing with a group.

So these days -
Big A talks to her EA 2 hours a day and works through things together.
She has about 3 hours or Zoom classes during the week and then continues with working through her syllabus.
Little A has a 40 min class on Zoom per week with her community class. Her EA emails a challenge every week for her to work on.

Here are a few highlight photos of the year...

There were also areas with tons and tons of dragonflies.

Fishtrap Creek Park is an activity park, as well as, a storm water storage basin system located in the community of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.
To reduce the possibility of flooding, storm water storage basins were constructed on the upper sections of the creek to control the flow of flooding so to protect the urban neighborhoods and to drain the farmlands.
Fishtrap Creek Park was built around the storage basins. The development of the stormwater system created a new landscape of forest, wetlands, spits, islands and marsh.
The new geography created an opportunity for a park. A recreation trail was added, as well as, a day use picnic area, picnic shelter, sightseeing benches, grass lawns, information signs and lookout viewpoints.
The trails, spits, sightseeing benches and lookouts are popular for birdwatching. There are opportunities to view waterfowl and song birds in the park. Other activities enjoyed include walking and jogging.
The main trail in the park is level and easy going so it is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Being that the trail is paved it is wheelchair and baby stroller friendly also. The main trail is part of the larger Discovery Trail.
The Discovery Trail is a 30+ recreation trail which explores the community of Abbotsford and connects to Fishtrap Creek Park.

Here is what she wrote:
Why I don't like the book.
*They think he (Marco Polo) is superstitious because he recorded in is diary things that other travelers told him including odd myths and tall tales.
*They think Marco was lying when he said "empty desert full of poisonous waters, as green as gross" because after they wrote that they said :In fact, the water was probably just unusually salty and undrinkable.
*They think that the cannibals he wrote about in his diary was not true.

*A cryptogram (a short message about Marco Polo)

*Criss Cross Puzzle Travel during times of Marco Polo...

*The travels of Marco Polo...(reading the story and answering questions)

Imagine that you are a modern day Marco Polo. You don't have to travel to someplace very far away! If you've ever taken a trip to another country, state or even city, you know that you saw many things that were different from what you were used to at home. Tell about a place that you have been including descriptions of the people and sights of that place, to someone who hasn't been there. She did most of the vaccuming, some window washing, she wiped out all the lower kitchen cabinets and drawers, and she helped clean parts of the bathroom, and wiped out the closest. She was a great helped today and worked really hard. She will be paid for this, she is quite excited.
