Health & Career
Book: The Care and Keeping of You. (all about puberty for girls).
She had many great questions afterwards. She thought that becoming a woman is disgusting and gross :)
I thought that her questions were very well thought out and the answers were not really addressed in the book - so we talk about most of them...
*do periods hurt when you have them?
*when will I have to start wearing a pad?
*does it hurt to wear a tampon?
*what do pads and tampons look like?
*why do I need to have a period? (This question almost got me roped into the sex talk - but I stopped myself )...
*can you feel when you are having your period?
Nov 14th - Big A took a class at the rec center called : At Home Alone.
They learned tips on how to stay safe at home. Their responsibilities and parent responsibilities. Also came up with scenarios to act out that could possibly happen if they were home alone.
The children also talked about fire safety if they are alone. They had to draw a design of their home and work out what they would do if they were alone. After class Big A and I went over the safety plan and came up with other scenarios that could happen. Teacher says that she is now able to stay home alone. We don't think she is ready - but it was a good start to learning about home alone safety.

OTHER:
Big A has been volunteering in the church nursery. She is volunteering in there 2 or 3x per month. infants up till 3rd birthday. (it was one or 2 - but they are really short workers and they love having her in there.)
She is enjoying learning how to care for babies, and play with toddlers. She told me how she held cheerios for one little boy as he would eat them way too fast and did not want him to choke - as he would take handfuls at a time.
the adults working in the nursery with her have said many great things about how hard she works and how well she works with the children.
