MAY 2014 - ALASKA & ABORIGINAL STUDIES

This month our Themes are Alaska & Aboriginal / Indian Studies.

PE:
Week of May 5 - 10
-20 mins neighborhood walk
-hopscotch
-20 mins on mini trampoline
-balancing on stepping stone buckets
-playing tag with cousins
-45mins swimming lessons
-20 mins neighborhood walk
-20 mins on mini trampoline
-20 mins neighborhood walk

Week of May 11-17
-20 mins neighborhood walk
-1 hour bowling (was able to put in 2 games in only 2 children showed up today)
-45 mins swimming lessons
-15 mins free swim
-1 hour bike ride
-1 hour scooter ride
-hula hoop
-skipping
-30 mins at the park:
  at the park the focus was monkey bars, zipline and swings.
  on themonkey bars big A is back to only being able to do 2 bars instead of the whole way like back in Feb.
   She made it halfways across the zipline, needs to learn to push off with her feet.


Week of May 18 - 25
-45 mins swimming lessons
-15 mins free swim
-45 mins at park - working on monkey bars & zipline, swings, climibing wall


Week of May 26 - 29 (Leave the 30th for the cruise)

Math:
Kumon Math book:
 *adding 5 & 6 - 40 / 40
 *addition up to 28  - 48 / 50
 *addition of 10's - 50 / 50

Fractions Game
 *identifying and using halves, quarters, fifths, sixths, and eighths

Board game: Candy land
Board game: Hi ho Cherry O
Board game: Chinese Checkers

Science:
2 hours at the Blue Heron Reserve for science class

Socials:
Working through 2 reading / coloring books:
1)An Indian Coloring Book: Tinka, A day in a little girl's life. by Carol Batdorf

2)An Indian Coloring Book: Totem Poles, An Ancient Art.  by Carol Batdorf & Tracy Cheney
  *The Totem Pole People- colored a map about different Tribes living along the Northwest Coast that were very talented in totem pole carving. Haida Style.
 *Totems Play a Big Role in Village Life: totem poles were the northwest Indian people's way of remembering

Spelling:Spelling Book:

 *practice test - choosing correct spelling of words - multiple choice - 30 / 30
 *practice test - finding errors - 7/10

Spelling Test:
 *day 1 - same as on May 6 - 18/20
 *kittin, mittin
 *day 2 - 3 previous problem words and 17 new ones
 *botton

Fine  Arts:
2 hour Violin
2 hour Choir
Big A was able to play Violin at the Music Festival.

Social Skills  / Life Skills:
2 hours of playing with cousins.  Exploring playing with caterpillars and pill bugs, playing tag.

Tv Show - Doc Mc Stuffin...
*learned a lesson on staying calm in emergencies / or difficult situations.

Shopping:
*At MCC store looking for black pants for the Music Festival...
we did not find any. as they were either too loose, too tight , or too wide...




Report Carding is done... Grade 2 is complete!!! SOOO PROUD of BIG A for working so incredibly hard this year!

Next Stop...


Family Cruise to Alaska!!!
4 week road trip from BC - ONT.
